Transport

There are three ways to arrive to Prague: by air, by train or by bus. Prague's airport has recently been expanded and modernized. It is located about 20km north of the city. You can take a taxi to your hotel or use public transportation. When taking a cab, use a taxi service in front of the airport. There is a fixed minimum price of 400kc to the city center.
There are also buses running to and from the nearest metro station called Dejvicka. Number 199 will get you to the metro station in about 30 minutes. Other than taxi, the best way to get to the city center is by a shuttle mini-van, which could be found right outside the airport. Public Transportation
Public transportation system in Prague is reliable and inexpensive. The metro goes just about anywhere, trains arrive every two to three minutes and it runs till midnight. Another good way to get around, particularly in the city center is by tram. However, the pricing and ticketing system may be confusing. If you ever need to use a ticket machine at the metro station, ask a local to help you since they are notoriously complicated. Otherwise, you can buy tickets from the “Tabak” kiosks.
The basic 6 KC ticket allows you to travel on only one means of transport for up to 15 minutes.
The 10 KC ticket gives you 90 minutes and you can change your means of transport within the three services.
After you buy a ticket you have to validate it by putting it into a slot on the top of a yellow column at the head of the escalators.
On a tram or bus you have to slide the ticket into a contraption attached to various columns in the bus or tram. You then pull the black lever on top towards you. This punches holes in the ticket.
Since the ticketing is somewhat difficult for a traveler, we suggest that you use day or week passes that could be purchased at the larger metro stations at the center.
24 hours. 50 Kc
3 day 130 Kc
7 day 190 Kc
15 day 220 Kc

Taxi
Be careful hailing a cab on a street. Prague cabbies are infamous tourist cheaters. Even though, there is a set rate of 17Kc per kilometer, meters could be fixed and you will end up paying a bundle. The best way to use a cab is to negotiate a rate in advance or to order one by phone from a reliable service.

Walking is the best way to explore the city. Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and you can truly appreciate it when getting lost in the little streets, crossing the bridges and discovering old churches by foot.
